Trisha and I drove through the?hinterlands of Fall City today looking for the reported Black-billed Magpie and Rough-legged Hawk.? We dipped on the magpie (my third time now, sigh) but found one (and possibly two) Rough-legged Hawks.?



The definite Rough-legged Hawk was on 24th/West Snoqualmie River Rd, right by the ?by the 'party pony' farm, on a pole along the road.? We had great, long looks at this bird.



While exploring Neal Road earlier, we had a hawk that we are 90% sure was another/separate Rough-legged.? It was right along Highway 203 and we had only binocs, not a scope.? The bird had some, but not much, white on its head and structurally looked like a Rough-legged - also the amount of mottling on the dorsal surfaces tended toward Rough-legged.? We went back to the start of Neal Road and drove on Hwy 203?to where the bird was, but it was on a curve in the road and we could not safely stop.? We were hoping it would fly to confirm the ID via the carpal patches, but the bird sat tight.? Perhaps someone else will find this bird and confirm.?
