I think the reason pishing doesn't work on other continents is because it simulates the predator-alarm calls of either some types of wrens or vireos or both. These critters don't occur in those places, so if that indeed is what it is, it's not surprising it doesn't work there.


Having said that, I have had good luck with pishing in a few other places, for example the mountains of Nepal. Maybe just an accident. I've tried it in many areas where it doesn't work.


The thing to do would be to find some of the common birds, learn their alarm calls, and imitate them.

That is, if you're the type that enjoys pishing. It's not for everyone.

I was told by local Australian bird guides that pishing is also
ineffective on that continent. While visiting Australia several years
ago, I pished a few times anyway and was indeed surprised that it did
not seem to have the usual desired effect.
