Out doing my swan survey again today. We got to the lake at the Bob Heirman
Wildlife Park to find about 500 trumpeters and a few tundra swans still
sleeping in. Several hundred swans had already left. There were also about
30,000 ducks staying for the day to avoid the hunters. Most were mallards,
wigeon or green-winged teal. A few coots, canvasback and pintails were mixed
in.
While out on the lake collected a deceased juvenile Trumpeter, we
observed a peregrine falcon hunting the ducks in the wetlands north of the
lake.
Swans were flying all morning through the valley. Photographers: a great
place to go for some amazing photos.
