I first saw a Townsend's Solitaire in my yard on 12/19; then I saw it every
day during my four days off at Christmas, 12/23 through 12/26. I've been at
work every day since then, and it's too dark both when I leave in the
morning and come home at night to have a chance to look for it.
A couple of folks I told about this bird suggested I post it to Tweeters
since they are rare in W WA this time of year. I've never seen one in my
yard before, but wasn't sure what its winter status was here. I've got to
say that it has been extremely cooperative in letting me get good looks at
it, spreading wings, fanning tail, as well as perching not too far away. I
wish all birds that I don't see very often would be so cooperative!
Since the Seattle CBC is this weekend, if anyone wants to check for it, I
live on NW 60th between 8th NW and 9th NW. I will look for it, also. (There
often are some scrub-jays around, too.)
