We saw neither the Red-billed Pigeon nor the Muskovy Duck and were told both of them were more easily seen in March. On the other hand, who knows what "winter" rarities you could miss?

One issue about winter is that TX is sometimes (like recently) hit by severe cold snaps. The last time we were there in 1/02 it was so bitterly cold and windy on two days that we did car birding on one of the days and stayed in on the other. This time, though, it was 80 a couple of days.

Something I forgot to mention in my earlier posting is that Sabel Palms (along with TNC's nearby preserve) is now fenced and closed--they were putting the gate across it the week we were there. Truly sickening, I must say...
