Tweets,
Monday I dropped off my family at SeaTac (where an eagle overflew) so spent
the gorgeous mid-afternoon to evening birding a few spots for some 2010
target species. Around 50 spp for the day.
> Gog-le-hi-te mitigated wetland, Lincoln St, Tacoma: Good numbers of
> THAYER'S GULL, the easiest ones to scope were on the nearest rooftop,
> along with a HERRING GULL, with at least one WESTERN around.
> Nisqually Wildlife Refuge:
- Several GR WHITE-FR GEESE and one EURASIAN WIGEON (hybrid?) among the
grazing waterfowl in field near parking lot to Twin Barns trail. At dusk a
huge flight(s) of geese came in, including CACKLERS, numbering perhaps 2000?
- NORTHERN SHRIKE just beyond viewing platform
- At least 7 BALD EAGLES. At dusk an AM KESTREL "claimed" one of the
eagles' dead tree perches out in the newly formed "mud flat." A COOPER'S
HAWK made a low pass from the direction of the twin barns near the boardwalk
out to the river.
- Not seen: Great Horned Owl, Long-eared Owl (I may have left too
early), Snowy Owl, kite, peregrine, bittern....
- A large coyote was walking along the new dike track parallel to the
entrance road, apparently interested in the geese feeding across the road
from the old orchard.
> Owling up Vantine Rd (east and north of Tenino), 8-9pm, produced only one
> SAW-WHET OWL.
