One further comment on eco-tourism: When my wife and I birded Uganda-Rrwanda a couple of years ago we found the villagers around the parks were extremely protective of the gorillas and chimps, as their livelihood depends almost entirely on visitors. Across the river in Congo it is exactly the opposite - they are killing the gorillas for bush meat. The Congolese cross the border and attempt to kill gorillas, and the Rwandans and Ugandans have armed patrols to control this.
Unfortunately, the gorillas also cross, both ways, and are sometimes killed on the Congo side.
