Several people have written me to inquire about the now missing swan located
in Indian Creek beaver pond just of Hwy 101 west of Port Angeles but before
Lake Sutherland, good news.
The swan was there for 9 weeks. It was unable to fly out due to the terrain
and trees. WDFW staff Anita MacMillan and Shelly Ament volunteered their
time, I coordinated the event and with 7 other volunteers got the swan on
Feb 7. This was an amazing adventure and I greatly appreciate all those who
helped make it possible.
The bird is doing well in rehab. Other than underweight, having eaten
all available aquatic vegetation, it seems to be otherwise healthy. Unless
an x-ray shows a broken bone we hope to release it when it finally gets
strength to fly.
