For the past month, a pair of BUFFLEHEADS has been resident on Frosh Pond
on the UW campus. Some years ago we had buffleheads there frequently, and
I assumed that they were feeding on the fish (put their by Frat boys, I'm
told). But now the pond is pretty clean, and I'm certain there are few if
any fish. So what are the birds eating? Does anyone have information
about the normal diets of buffleheads? They are actively diving in the
pond, so I assume they are getting well fed. And there is no indication
of any large algae in the pond.
