I watched a?double ?crested cormorant, diving by the public fishing pier,?struggle to devour?a very large? fish to no avail.? A person standing beside me?said that the fish?was a bullhead, aptly named for its large head.??The cormorant?went under water to reposition the fish in its mouth, but that did not help.? At one point it looked like it might succeed, but the fish was just too big.? I left after about twenty minutes and many?photos while the?cormorant was still trying to devour its catch.

As I walked back to the parking lot, I positioned myself to take some more photos of the eagle perched on the piling between the marina and the ferry dock.? The dot in the sky spoiling my photo turned out to be?a Coast Guard helicopter flying south down the Sound.???The eagle paid no attention as the helicopter?made two low?flyovers of the ferry dock.? It was so low that I could smell its exhaust as it?passed over me.
