Hi Tweets:
Some interesting behavior and sightings the last few days in Des Moines (south of Seatac Airport):
Tue, Feb 9. Cathea S in Seatac (just north of Des Moines) had a COMMON RAVEN perched near her yard.
Thur, Feb 11. Mid day. Very sunny. Des M Creek woods. Heard two different HUTTON'S VIREO'S singing a short version of their repetitive vreet, vreet, vreet song.
Fri, Feb 12. Mid day. Very sunny. 60 degrees. I was walking my son's two small dogs into the woods of Des Moines Crk. Park, and an ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD started to do display dives right next to us. It would go up in the air about 35 feet, and dive down making the loud chirp sound. It did this 9!! times. The loud chirp sounds like someone scuffing rubber-soled shoes on a wooden floor. Their "song" or call when perched sounds to me like a hiss, w/ "t" sounds made during it. I'm practicing my hummer sound. Hope to get as good as Amy Schillinger making their call.
Fri, Feb 12. The neighbor across the street had 2 COMMON RAVENS perched and calling by her yard.
Sat, Feb 13. Mid day. Neighbor saw and then got binocs on a male WESTERN TANAGER perched up in a fir tree across the street from my house. She said it had red on its head already.
