Hi Tweeters,
This was day two of a four day trip for Tom Finn and myself.
Yesterday(2/20/10) we started on the Waterville Plateau with aslow morning;
the only thing of note being two TREE SPARROWS on Heritage Road as reported
by others. In the afternoon we went up Cameron Lake Road from the south end
where the early overlook of the Okanogan River yielded TRUMPETER SWANS,
before the rest of the day was uneventful.

Today(2/21/10) Conconully was birdy but nothing unusual. The drive out was
highlighted by scope looks at a pair of GOLDEN EAGLES soaring above the
ridges. By late morning we were headed up toward Havillah and were 11.3
miles from Tonasket when two amazingly light underneath buteos began to rise
and we pulled over to watch. These birds were mostly white under wing and
throat to the base of the tail with a hint of a belly band and a light peach
color to the end of the tail. we also heard them make a typical Red-Tailed
calls as they ascended. They eventually had an interaction with another
Red-tailed Hawk and sailed off to the north. Do we have Krider's in this
area? Later at the feeders on Hungry Hollow Road we saw about 20
GRAY-CROWNED ROSY-FINCHES. The woodlot at the intersection of Grange and
Hungry Hollow roads yielded a CLARK'S NUTCRACKER as well as being quite
birdy. About 1.5 miles up Mary Ann Creek Road from Chesaw Road we were
treated to a single SHARP-TAILED GROUSE high in a Wate Birch dining on buds.
Ending the day at Highland Sno-Park was we were not successful with Great
Gray Owl. Ah, but tomorrow is another day. Good Birding.
