not sure about other people, but i miss the siskin invasions of the past two
years at my feeder. they were not just there, but there in numbers... this
winter season, not so much. in fact, right now is the first time i've seen
more than one or two in a day in a long time...

nice to see... oh, and they aren't nearly as picky as the red-breasted
nuthatches in what they will eat :)

i've even seen my steller's jays cart off whole peanuts, perhaps to eat them
at leisure elsewhere. one intrepid individual attempted to chow down on a
complete peanut (they are provided in-shell here at maison du park). he got
it almost into his crop (an amazing feat in itself), then flew off. i'm not
sure if he completed the transaction; hope so :)
