Greetings All,

Earlier this evening I posted the second of Jim Danzenbaker's journal
entries as he helps lead a tour to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia,
and Antarctica. Since 1998 he has been doing this tour (see Cheesemans' Ecology Safaris) as the onboard seabird expert.

Interestingly, Internet access while traveling on board the "Polar
Star" is extremely limited (one outgoing message per day and no
incoming messages) so Jim is sending his journal entries via simple
e-mail to a friend who then forwards them to me so we can post them to
our journal. Since Jim isn't able to send along any attachments (no
current photos), he arranged in advance to send me a CD with photos
from past trips that are referenced to each day of the tour. Seems
strange in this age of instant access that we have to use such an
archaic method to communicate. On some level, it must be fun to be
"unplugged" so to speak.

This tour lasts another 24 days, thus we can likely expect another 10
or so posts from Jim. To see what he has sent us so far, visit www.birdfellow.com.
