Subject: [Tweeters] First bird of 2010?

My first bird of the 2010 (in order) were:
- American Crow (a few flying overhead at dawn along Lk WA Blvd)
- Pine Siskin (heard the distinctive song as I saw the crows)
- American Goldfinch (an unusually large number at my feeders)

FWIW, my last birds of 2009 were: a few flocks of Trumpeter Swans flying
over Monroe, a few lively Gray Jays at Stevens Pass, and two American
Kestrels along Highway 2 in Sultan.

Out with kestrels, in with crows? I'm not sure if that bodes well :-)

Best regards,

hello tweeties,

what was the first bird that you saw in 2010? what significance does this
species have for you (if any)?

my first bird of 2010 was a beautiful, very pale Peregrine Falcon that
soared at eye-level past the window of my new home, a flat on the 13th floor
of an apartment building in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. my spouse's first
bird of 2010 was a European (Common) Magpie that landed on the roof of the
hotel swimming pool next door. these first birds of 2010 suggest a new and
exciting life ahead for me.

cheers,
