I birded Skamania County yesterday and watched three STELLER'S SEA LIONS feeding below Bonneville Dam. These huge sea lions were eating 4' - 5' White Sturgeon, thrashing in the water while they shake the sturgeon tearing chunks of flesh out of them. The gulls hone in on these feeding pinipeds and you could locate the sea lions by their attending flock of gulls.

The latest report I've gotten suggests an unimpressive Chum Salmon run and
unusually high numbers of California Sea Lions in the lower river. A half
dozen sea lions were observed last weekend hauled out in one spot along the
river upstream of Interstate 5 a short distance. .
