Greetings All,
?
By now I had hoped there would be some more discussion of the "Garganey" seen this past week at Magneson Park.?
?
Several of us got good, long, closeup looks at the bird on Sunday afternoon while it was feeding on shoreline vegetation with 4 Green-winged Teal.? This bird's undertail coverts were noticably different from the others, streaked rather than largely white. It did not seem noticably larger than the others even at close quarters.? The eye markings were all quite similar among the five birds, including a light loral spot just behind the bill.? The bird was unwilling to stretch out a wing to give us a good look at the speculum pattern, much to everyone's chagrin.?
?
Gene Hunn's latest posting suggested several reasons for leaning toward Garganey and a couple of reasons to lean away from same.? Any more thoughts?
?
