Thanks to Gene Hunn for telling me today at Alki that he had seen some Black Scoters near the lighthouse, because when returning to my car after unsuccessfully looking for the scoters I located the Black-billed Magpie in some tall madrones just across the street (the 'land' not 'water' side) from the lighthouse corner. It flew east, however, soon after I located it but this might be a good place to look if one strikes out elsewhere.
