Subject: [Tweeters] Redhead at Montlake Fill

Hey tweets, I've been out of commission lately due to family medical
adventures, but since so many of you have been asking about Redheads
at the Fill, I thought I'd let you know that there have been six
hanging out with the big duck flock since Jan. 1. Three are males and
three are females. They seem to be in pairs, at least when I get close
looks.

The flock has been coming into the Cove more often than it ever did
last year, so it's possible to see these Redheads in good light. Once
or twice, the flock has been so near shore, I could have walked on the
birds' backs (assuming they would have been more afraid of the
prowling eagles than the prowling birder). On one occasion, the flock
was dabbling at the shore's edge, where I sat. I could hear every
snuffle. It was pure magic to be allowed so close, almost as though I
were a member of the flock too. I learned that if you are in a big
flock, you do feel amazingly safe - there were something like 800
other individuals around me looking plump and far more edible than I
was. - Connie, Seattle
