I have seen Bald Eagles preying on Coots and And other birds over the
years but I have been amazed at the frequency that we see this at our
newish house on Lake Sammamish. When I'm around and paying attention,
a day rarely passes without an Eagle taking a Coot in front of our
house. They often work in pairs, exhausting the bird over the course
of 4-5 minutes. For my young kids - ages 4 and 6 - it is Mutual of
Omah Wild Kingdom.

Today, when an Eagle took a Coot and accidentally dropped it on our
roof when flying to a big Doug Fir, my 4-year old asked "Is that real
dad?". The answer was yes.

Does anybody have any information on the % of Eagle diets that are
made up of Coot?
