Hi Tweeters,
Last winter I decided to record the dates I first heard singing birds.
Below is a list of the singing birds I noticed in December & January
Brown Creeper, Dec 29th
Red-Winged Blackbird, Jan 1
House Finch , Jan 3rd
Bewick?s Wren, Jan 7th this year Jan 2nd
Spotted Towhee, Jan 13th this year Jan 14th
Varied Thrush , Jan 14th
Song Sparrow, Jan 4th this winter Dec 20th
I guess I haven't been outside as much this year because so far I've only hear 4 species singing. Last year I didn't record American Robin but this year I heard them on Jan 10th
At this time of year I am more than anxious for Spring's arrival but my meager records don't indicate that Spring is any earlier this year than last.
Robins, juncos, starlings and jays are all very active in my yard today and for the first time I saw a pair of squirrels. One was obviously trying to seduce the other.
