We've been listening to Song Sparrows and Bewick's Wrens, too, but the
surprising "songs" are the ones we're hearing from the Bald Eagles. We
have a nesting pair in our neighborhood, and we are hearing that "rusty
hinge" sound during hours of darkness. I heard it last night about 7 -
7:30 as I climbed out of the car, and this morning at 6:30 -7:00 they
were calling again. It's an eerie sound to hear at night. The ol' brain
runs the list of possibilities and is quite pleased to settle on Bald Eagle.
