Kevin Purcell said "Bewick's Wrens and House Finches (as has been mentioned) sing all through winter with territorial song (I hear them on Cap Hill in Seattle all through winter even with snow on the ground).

This reminded me of doing the Ellensburg CBC last month. With a good dosage of snow on the ground, well below freezing temps, and fog in the air, Bewick's wren males still sang their little hearts out all morning in the upper stretches of the Yakima River Canyon (around Ringer Loop Rd and Helen McCabe State Park). Mid December, temps in the 20's, fog and snow isn't exactly spring yet song was in full force.

While these aren't signs of an early spring, they are welcome to our ears in the depths of winter.
