I ran into Matt Bartels on Puget Island today and we birded together
for the afternoon. In the Julia Butler Hansen Refuge Matt spotted a
Harris's Sparrow in a flock of Golden-crowned Sparrows. It was on
Brooks Slough Road, at the bend immediately east of the easternmost
bridge, opposite the cattail marsh. It cooperatively sat out in the
open for a minute or more. We also got to see the beautiful dark
morph Rough-legged Hawk that has been wintering on Puget Island, and
watched a pair of White-tailed Kites in Skamokawa's Middle Valley.
This has been the only pair of kites that has remained in the area
this winter.
