The Fill was filled with birdsong today. It seemed every Red-winged Blackbird in the region had converged on the SW pond in full throated territorial ardor. The swingset grove was full of birds, and full of tentative late-winter trial songs. I heard one that was alarming familiar but that I couldn't place, which happens every Spring. Every year it seems I have to learn all the songs over again. Using IBird on my iPhone I tried, but failed, to connect it with what I was seeing, which was mostly Yellow-rumps (though I had a close encounter with a couple of Brown Creepers, eye level, 5 feet away). The song stuck in my head all day, a Zee-zee-zee, za ZWEE. By computer I finally found a match. There was a Yellow Warbler hiding somewhere in plain view.
