while i'm usually willing to offer an opinion on most anything (opinions,
i'm told, are like anuses -- everyone has at least one, and most of them
stink), i cannot do so in this case. i came upon the scene (which was, as
opined, the horse ranch abutting sikes lake) shortly after the bird had
left. my contribution lay in producing a sibley's, viewing the images of
henne and mike, and agreeing the bird looks like a gyr to me. it does seem
unlikely the several recent reports would not contain a reference to jesses
or transmitter if the bird had them. that said, i recall taking images of a
redtail a few hundred yards down that same stretch of road two or three
summers ago and not noticing a leg band until processing the pictures later
that night.
