Hi,
This morning Duana Kuana and I birded in a loop from Snohomish to Monroe and back via Bob Heirman Wildlife Park.
We were surprised to find a Western Scrub Jay along 176 St SE. From Tualco Loop Road, south of Monroe - turn right (north) onto 183rd Ave SE (AKA Sargent Road) and at the 'T' turn left onto 176th St SE. The jay was seen in a garden north of the road just before it becomes a gravel road and probably private.
We were watching a small flock of sparrows when the jay appeared on the scene. We waited a few minutes and the bird re-appeared.
Along 183rd Ave SE we had a large flock of blackbirds that included one male Yellow-head Blackbird and several Brown-headed Cowbirds - unusual for winter.
We were not having much luck finding any sparrows. But we struck lucky at the Crescent Lake hunting area: park at an obvious lay-by 1/4 mile north of the south parking lot. Walk into the large field. On the far side we had a large flock of sparrows that included:
c30 Savannah Sparrows
1 Swamp Sparrow (brief look),
2 Lincoln Sparrows
1 White-throated Sparrow - but possibly 2 birds seen
etc etc
c100 Western Meadowlarks.
"It was good day"
Cheers and good birding
