Hi everyone,

Still no re-appearance of the Gyrfalcon seen near Sikes Lake recently?- I have been commuting to classes via the valley periodically since the Gyr was seen in hope of finding it again, but it appears it has probably moved on.? However, I was able to find the Tule subspecies Greater White-fronted Goose found earlier and reported by Ryan Merrill.??The size and?color differences are very obvious when seen next to the other Greater White-fronted Geese.? Geese by the thousands winter on the main hay field at Carnation Farm?and other nearby fields and there are normally several separate large flocks of the birds working different areas of the fields.? The Tule goose was seen about 3:30 pm yesterday (Friday) with a group of geese that was working quite close to Carnation Farm Road toward the east end of the hay field, just before the road climbs up (heading east) to the pull-off overlook for the farm.? In this location, the bird was easily ID'd with just good binoculars - no need for a scope, which is usually needed to look through the flocks further out in the fields.
