I think a lot of us are wondering if our W. Screech-Owls (not to mention Spotteds) are doomed by

Barred Owls. The birds seem amazingly aggressive at times and, given threat to Spotted Owl, somewhere

recently I read that there has even been discussion of a F&Wildlife Barred removal plan. I know that we

had two on the Everett CBC this year, but a record 6 at Sequim-Dungeness CBC in Dec. Then as memory

serves, the Victoria, BC CBC has for some time had no W. Screech, and has been in double-digits on Barreds.

Like Jamie's data from Bainbridge I. some time back, seems any decent wooded ravine will do.

But then there's a report like this one of a cat predation. Quite interesting--Barreds seem to be making

the most of any opportunity, and I for one figure that feral cats make for a better target than W. Screech

Owls.
