I once met a gentleman who worked for the RMBO in Colorado, who said that
his studies of Great Horned Owls (+pellets) indicated that they eat a LOT of
'domestic' cat. I doesn't surprise me to learn that other owls do the same.

I know that there's a GHOW in our neighborhood, so our cats don't go out at
night. :)
