Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday January 28. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 503-233-3976.

The HOODED ORIOLE at first and Cottonwood Streets in Gaston is still being
seen. The TUFTED DUCK near Jones Beach north of Clatskanie continues.

Good numbers of BROWN PELICANS continue along the coast with many showing
signs of starvation. A BROWN BOOBY was found dead during the week on Long
Beach north of the Columbia River mouth.

On January 26 a LONG-TAILED DUCK was at the South Jetty of Yaquina Bay. Four
NIGHT-HERONS were seen that day at the pond behind the Marine Science
Center. A GOLDEN EAGLE was seen January 23 north of Siletz. A PALM WARBLER
was photographed January 23 along Fenk Road near Tillamook. Two SHORT-EARED
OWLS were seen during the week in Gearhart. The CLAY-COLORED SPARROW
continues to be seen along Wireless Road near Astoria.

On January 21 a BRANT was seen among a flock of geese in the Bethany area
north of Beaverton. During the evening of January 18, 30 NORTHERN HARRIERS
were seen going to roost in the Prairie at Finley NWR. On January 17 over
6000 DUNLIN were at Fern Ridge Reservoir. An EMPEROR GOOSE was seen among a
group of WHITE-FRONTED GEESE January 23 near Glide. On January 27 a bright
LARK SPARROW was at the Miller Island SWA Headquarters south of Klamath
Falls.

Mild weather and a lack of much snow in Northeast Oregon persists, but on
January 26 up to 150 SNOW BUNTINGS were along Golf Course Road near
Enterprise, six BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were in Joseph, and 12 SHORT-EARED OWLS
were ALONG CROW CREEK ROAD.

That?s it for this week.
