Today wrapped up an epic raptor week in Edmonds with sightings of three different birds. On our way to scout out the bluff above the off leash dog park,?my son and I?spotted a red-tailed hawk sitting atop a floodlight fixture where the oil tank farm was located.? While we were watching the hawk, an adult bald eagle flew by and perched in the same spot as (what I now believe to be)?a juvie bald eagle perched?two days earlier.?

The eagle remained perched there for at least two hours, as we could still see it when we relocated to the marsh.? Not even passing freight trains disturbed it.

We left the marsh and cruised north on Sunset Ave. Looking at the railroad tracks, I saw what looked like a small hawk perched on top of one of the railroad signal lights, the same spot where I had photographed a small hawk last year. By the time we parked the pickup and walked back south, the hawk had left.

I did notice two crows buzzing the floodlights located at the north end of the Amtrak platform.? Closer inspection revealed that the hawk had perched in the floodlight fixture.?? It looked very much like the hawk whose photos I took last year perched on the signal light and bathing in Willow Creek by the fish hatchery. I think it is a juvenile Cooper's hawk based on the round end of its tail.

Tomorrow I am meeting of my motorcycle buddies in Marysville for our last Sunday of the month breakafst and ride.? I?have not yet resumed riding after my accident last spring in California, so after breakfast I will take off north to look for birds in the Skagitt-Stillaguamish area while they ride.
