Tweeters,
This morning (1/31/10) at the Longview Mint Farm Industrial area there was a
SWAMP SPARROW in a mixed flock containing Fox, Song, Lincoln's, and both
Crowned Sparrows, plus House Finches. From the junction of Crocker Ave. and
Weber Ave walk north to where the service road goes through the tree
line. The flock was using the blackberries, bushes and grasses in this
area. Other species of interest around Cowlitz County today included a
RUDDY DUCK at the Longview STP. Two PEREGRINE FALCONS at Willow Grove - also
a WHITE-THROATED SPARROW about half way along Coal Creek Slough as you go
around the loop. There was ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK at Willow Grove as well. Port of
Kalama North Property had 12 HORNED LARKS in the dredge spoils. Woodland
Bottoms held 26 GREAT EGRETS and 325 SANDHILL CRANES. I finished a fun
birding day off by watching the interactions of 3 SHORT-EARED OWLS along
Barlow Point Road. Good birding.
