Subject: [Tweeters] Edmonds Roundup (Fourth of July)

Hi Tweets,

I did not make it down to the Edmonds Bowl either yesterday morning
or this morning. The Land of Nod has been beckoning weary me after a
rough week at work. I did walk Point Edwards last evening and it was
quite birdy, as it was this afternoon. With all the blackberry
blossoms and native shrubs setting fruit, Point Edwards continues to
be the birdiest spot. I have not seen anything other than the
expected resident birds, but it has been nice nonetheless. The
highlight of the waterfront was the 40 Heermann's Gulls on the
marina's south breakwater. The highlight of the Marsh was six Great
Blue Herons, more than I have seen in a long time down there. The
highlight at Point Edwards was seeing the young Mallard continuing
with the Gadwall hen and her brood of six chicks. It is twice the
size of the smallest Gadwall, but seems to have been accepted as part
of the brood. It was odd to see three large hummingbird feeders down
in the gloom of the Willow Creek Hatchery. I had heard rumors of
someone wanting to band hummers and was going to try to lure them
there. It has been only rarely that I have seen a hummer in the
hatchery. The juxtaposition of those monster feeders where there are
no hummers with all the hummingbird activity just up the hill at
Point Edwards struck me as funny.
