Subject: [Tweeters] RFI: Scope carry-on on flight?

Tim,

I've carried my scope on many, many times in traveling and leading tours,
with virtually no second guessing from security. I have occasionally
carried on the scope attached to the tripod, but have found it's usually
easier to pack the tripod in a checked bag after wrapping some clothes
around it for padding; or carried the tripod on separately from the scope,
so it will slide way to the back of an overhead storage bin.

Subject: [Tweeters] RFI: Scope carry-on on flight?

Hi all,

I'm headed north next week and will be taking my spotting scope. Can I
simply just carry on the scope attached to the tripod onto the plane as one
of my personal items? I don't have a case to carry it in. I have checked
bags before and seen items as binders and such crushed so I don't really
want to put it in the checked luggage.

Thanks for any information you can provide!
