Hello, all.

I wish this message was to report Boreal Chickadees, but it isn't. We have tried three known localities for this species in the past couple of weeks to try to photograph them, with no luck.

1) Long Swamp to Roger Lake, Okanogan Co., WA
Almost this entire area was burned up in the 30 mile Burn (of 2001, I believe). We have been there several times looking for Boreals but have not found them, even in fairly large remaining patches of Engelmann spruce.

2) Salmo Mountain, Pend Oreille Co., WA
We visited this area a few days ago, but it started raining soon after we arrived, and we had only about an hour before the rains came. But didn't see or hear any.

3) Manning Provincial Park, BC
I have seen this species at Manning Park in past years. The only place we could go up to relatively high elevation was the road to Cascade Lookout, and we had no luck there. The road was closed before the lookout, and you can't get up to the ski area south of Lightning Lake in summer. I assume someone on tweeters knows specific localities for the species in Manning Park.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen this species at any of these localities recently. We haven't been to Hart's Pass, where I have also seen them in past years.

Where are the Boreal Chckadees of today?

Dennis
