Hello All,

On 3 July MerryLynn and I launched into a Big Day within the confines of Walla Walla County. We were joined part of the day by Bob Derting. We started at 4:15 AM and finished at 11:00 PM. We drove 247 miles and walked 2 miles. We located 136 species in Walla Walla County. Birds of note were: Common Goldeneye-WWRdelta our first summer record. Clark's Grebe-one adult in Wallula Gap, Peregrine Falcon-1 adult in Wallula Gap, Varied Thrush-5 territorial males along Biscuit Ridge Rd., Baird's Sandpiper-one in alt.plumage at Tyson Ponds, earliest fall record in WW Co., Great Gray Owls-four birds along Biscuit Ridge Rd. and a Green-tailed Towhee-one bird along Biscuit Ridge Rd. Turkey Vultures-2 birds over Lowden. This Big Day beat our record set in 2005 when we located 134 species. We also saw Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer, elk and a black bear. Our starting air temp was 41 degrees F. with a high of 77 degrees F. Fun day lots of birds and great birding weather.
Later Mike
