Hi Tweets...I never in a million years thought I would see a Pileated
Woodpecker here in Ocean Shores but I did this evening. I was driving north
on Torrisdale near the Cabana Pool/Perkins Pond area when a bird flying just
ahead and above me caught my attention. I thought it was a Green Heron at
first then I saw the red cockade and the black and white body as it turned
across the road and headed towards the intersection of Butter Clam and Ocean
Shores Blvd. We have a lot of Shore Pine (Pinus contorta) in that area, and
some remaining Sitka Spruce, but it is mostly willows and salal...and
Himalayan Blackberries of course.
