Monday and Tuesday I birded mostly in Lewis County. Thanks to Dave Hayden and Tom Mansfield for earlier postings. A few highlights:

Monday, July 5

MP2 Falls Road (east of Riffe Lake, Lewis Co)
Western Bluebird - 1 male where Dave reported it

Peters Road (Lewis Co)
Bank Swallow
American Bittern - 2 seen and another heard
Wood Duck
Hooded Merganser
Virginia Rail - several heard
Sora - 2 heard
Lazuli Bunting - 1 male

Also at Peters Road I came upon a dead GRAY CATBIRD. This was Monday afternoon. Dave Hayden tells me that he saw a catbird at that location on Tuesday, so there were indeed 2 catbirds at Peters Rd as Tom had suspected.

Toutle River RV Resort (Cowlitz)
Western Bluebird - 1 male Thanks to Russ Koppendrayer for finding and reporting; I drove into the RV park and the bird was perched on a post as I entered. Too easy.

Tuesday, July 6

Centralia Steam Plant (Lewis Co)
American Bittern - 1 seen flying over the marsh
Purple Martin - 1 heard but not seen

Tono Road (just north of the steam plant, in Thurston Co)
Purple Martin - a pair diving on a perched American Kestrel
Cassin's Vireo - singing alongside the road
