Bellingham's Caspian Tern colony is bursting at the seams.
I spent a few hours on site this afternoon and yes, it was HOT! But the tern action was hot as well, so I didn't really notice.

The earlier count of >1,600 has risen, in my estimation, to over 2,000 birds, especially when you count the chicks that are all over the place....and birds are still sitting on eggs, incubating. The terns are finding good fishing close by (no more than 200 yards away) and food deliveries are constant. I do believe that more adults are still arriving. There appear to be more birds today than were there on Monday!

What a wonderful summer spectacle! A possible chick banding is on the horizon.
