I had a pipit flyover a point count I was doing and it landed in an elm.
Granted the elm was mostly dead and it was at an old homestead in the middle
of some very open shrub-steppe. The person with me had never seen one but
was aware that they are typically on the ground. He said "If I had come to
you and said I had seen my life pipit in a tree, would you have believed
me." Food for thought isn't it?
