At about 4:45 pm today, Monday 7/12, I observed a female BUFFLEHEAD on Lake
Jeane, Twin Lakes, Federal Way. This is an unusual record for this time of
the year and my first in 20 years! Also had a female MALLARD with six almost
fully grown young, all of them actively diving for food close to the shore.
Seems mom did not tell them, or these teenagers did not want to be dabbling
ducks! In contrast there also is another Mallard hen with 7 ducklings barely
2-3 days old, very likely a replacement clutch. Most male Mallards are now
in eclipse plumage.

Cheers,

Hans Feddern
