Sorry for the late report. With constant overcast and fog we managed to have a wonderful trip this past Saturday. This was one of our trips to the outer slope, which goes to the middle of Grays Canyon at 1000 fathoms! The main purpose, at this time of year, are good numbers of Leach's Storm-Petrels and to spend more time in deeper waters hoping for the unusual. Highlights included numerous Leach's, Fork-tailed Storm-Petrels, four South Polar Skuas, one Red Phalarope, two Arctic Terns and three Tufted Puffins. Finding four fishing vessels on our transect helped with good numbers of Black-footed Albatross, Pink and Sooty Shearwaters. Mammal highlights include two Humpback Whales and 60+ Pacific White-sided Dolphins. My personal highlight was a large Salmon Shark that stayed on the surface for a long time giving everyone excellent views.
