Bob Whitney and I just returned from a trip from Port Townsend to Bellingham and back to photograph the Caspian Tern colony and were greatly impressed with the colony but not with the photo opportunities. The colony is too far away with too much atmospheric heat distortion over the ground area for sharp images. Very early morning shots may help (before the sun shines on the area to the east of it) or a very overcast day (600mm lens might get some decent results but I'm not sure that's big enough). We did get a few BIF's further to the south at the park in Fairhaven but mostly they were too high and too far out. It was interesting to see the constant stream north and south with almost all of the north flyers carrying fish or eels(?). Two years ago we had large numbers diving on bait, 30 to 40 yards off of Pt. Wilson, for almost a month. Bellingham, I think you stole all our CTs. We would like to have a few back, please. Thank you for any help?
