The plot continues to thicken in Bellingham.

This evening's count:
2,070 adults and 416 chicks ranging from 1 to 5 weeks old.
Numerous birds are still on nests, and I even photographed one pair copulating today!
This is a very active colony with heated interactions/disputes and fish deliveries arriving constantly .

On a remarkable note, at about 5:30 this evening, an adult Bald Eagle put the entire colony to flight and all the chicks scurried to their "assigned scurry-to points" in a mass of noise and chaos! We looked around and this one Bald Eagle appeared to have the entire Bellingham waterfront in the air. Terns, gulls, pigeons, and crows!

It was truly spectacular to witness, on a beautiful evening no less.
Maybe this is why we're nuts about birds. WOW!

Caspian cheers,
Joe Meche
