Hi Tweets,

It was 50 degrees, a little foggy, but still when I was on the public
pier this morning (7-17-10). The expected birds were seen, including
13 Rhinoceros Auklets in close, and lots of Hermann's Gulls on the
marina's south breakwater. I could count about 80 at rest, but then
a Bald Eagle flew over and stirred them up. A couple of hundred rose
up to fly about briefly and then settled back down. There were four
species of sandpiper in the Marsh this morning, along with Purple
Martins and Great Blue Herons. The Cliff Swallows of last Sunday
were a one-day show as was the Greater Yellowlegs seen in the Marsh
on Friday. The Gadwall hen and her five youngsters were still on the
Point Edwards pond last evening. This morning they had been replaced
by a Mallard Hen with a number of downy, yellow chicks following her
about. There were a number of Anna's Hummingbirds around but only
one Rufous seen this morning. We also saw what appeared to be a
black and white roller pigeon from Point Edwards.
