There is a group, a "Yahoo Group" called NW Leps, that includes many of the
most knowledgeable lep people in the Pacific Northwest. The group maintains
some limited level of communication via a list serve. The group's website
has picture albums and other information. Here's a link tht may be of some
use, at least to get you subscribed, if you like to try that (it's a "pets"
group. Hmmmm):

Capitol Forest, south of Olympia, would be an easy place to see Clodius
Parnassian in August. August will certainly be a good time to look for the
Pine White though I've not seen that many of them myself. I remember one on
the Quinault Indian Reservation and another on Fort Lewis. I also remember
them, in abundance during late summer, in the upper Quinault River drainage,
above Quinault Lake. You could see them high in the conifers, seldom
dropping down to eye level. I saw my first ever Great Arctic, just Tuesday,
the day before yesterday. It was along State Route 410, six and a half miles
east of Chinook Pass.



I've seen quite a few Arctic Skippers but none in August. I suspect that one
will be elusive, at best, in August.

First of all, sorry for the non-bird RFI:, but I'm not having much luck with
trying to obtain info. elsewhere and I'm guessing that someone
on this list can be of assistance. I'm going to be in Wa. State in August,
primarily on a birding trip, but I'll also be looking for butterflies.
I've contacted the Washington State Butterfly Association and Seattle
Audubon in regards to locations for some of the butterflies I'd like
to see, but neither has responded. So, if anyone on this list is familiar
with leps in Wa. State, or knows someone who is, would you
please contact me?

Just in case you want to forward my inquiry on, below is some additional
info. in regards to where I'll be and species I'll be looking for.

I'll be spending time in the Mtn. Baker area, Ocean Shores and in eastern
Wa. around Wenatchee, Ellensburg and Yakima. Bellow are
the species I'll be looking for.

Clodius Parnassian
Phoebus Parnassian
Pine White
Common Alpine
Great Arctic
Arctic Skipper (too late in the year?)
