Nice photos. Last year we had a yellow House Finch and several typical red males feeding in our yard. Very nice contrast to the red birds.


Please note the following research citations and note regarding Yellow Cassin's finches came directly from Cornell Birds on Line:







"Yellow-colored males occur occasionally in the wild ( van Rossem 1921 ) , perhaps due to diet deficient in carotenoids (see Arvey 1938 )."

hi all ... we were at Mount Hood today ... not much going on ...
weather was cool and overcast, a bit disappointing for photography
... not that many birds and not very many wildflowers either ... at
the Lodge there was LOTS of noise going on as they were busy erecting
scaffolding to work on the roof (???) ... we went up to the "stone
tower" where we found Cassin's Finch families, a few Juncos, and the
pair of Mountain Bluebirds still feeding their babies (who could be
heard SCREAMING loudly) ...

got one interesting bird ... a YELLOW Cassin's Finch ??? ... here's 2 pix ...

is this a Cassin's ??? ... I've only seen one Cassin's before so I've
just been comparing this guy with pix in the books and on the
internet ... now I've seen yellow in House Finches but even Googling
the Net I couldn't find any pix of yellow Cassins ...
