I forwarded the link to the yellow Cassin's Finch to Dr. Geoff Hill at Auburn University. He is one of the world's leading experts on carotenoid coloration in Carpodacus finches. He believes that this, "bird probably lacks a gene for an enzyme for converting yellow pigments to red pigments". Great photos and thanks for sharing.
