Greetings all,

We had an incredible day offshore on the Westport Seabirds pelagic trip. The weather and sea conditions were decent with mostly calm seas and constant overcast skies. The highlight was a young Short-tailed Albatross observed for an extended period of time first seen as we approached a fishing boat with many Black-footed Albatross around it.

Other highlights included 2 adult Long-tailed Jaegers, 2 Pomarine Jaegers (1 ad. Dark Morph), 2 Parasitic Jaegers, 1 South Polar Skua, over 100 each Fork-tailed and Leach's Storm-Petrels, Red and Red-necked Phalaropes and 2 Arctic Terns.

We also observed several Humpback Whales, 1 Orca and many Dall's Porpoise scattered throughout the day.

Final numbers will be on the Westport Seabirds website in a week or so.

There were many photographs taken of the Short-tailed Albatross, I have several more to edit but I have put 1 photograph on my Flickr site
